Add one softening phrase. Keep it natural.

SET 1 – Basic Softening (2×8)

Say the softer version out loud.

  1. I don’t agree. → I don’t really agree.
  2. That’s wrong. → That’s not really right.
  3. I don’t like it. → I don’t really like it.
  4. It’s bad. → It’s kind of bad.
  5. I don’t understand. → I’m not really sure I understand.
  6. That’s strange. → That’s a bit strange.
  7. I don’t want that. → I don’t really want that.
  8. It’s difficult. → It’s kind of difficult.
  9. SET 2 – In Real Sentences (2×8)

    Use one softener. Keep it natural.

  10. I don’t really agree with that.
  11. That’s kind of strange, actually.
  12. I’m not really sure that’s correct.
  13. It’s a bit more complicated than that.
  14. I don’t really think that works.
  15. That seems kind of unfair.
  16. I’m not completely sure about that.
  17. It’s a little harder than I expected.

Say one opinion about something you watched. Soften it.

Disagree with something gently.

Explain one small problem without sounding angry.
