If something sounds unclear, clarify it smoothly.

Don’t restart the whole sentence.

SET 1 – Basic Clarifying Phrases (2×8)

Add a natural clarification.

  1. It was difficult.
  2. → I mean, it was more stressful than I expected.

  3. It didn’t work.
  4. → What I mean is, it didn’t work the way I thought.

  5. I didn’t like it.
  6. → I mean, it just wasn’t my thing.

  7. It was strange.
  8. → What I mean is, it felt a bit off.

  9. He was upset.
  10. → I mean, he looked really disappointed.

  11. It changed.
  12. → What I mean is, it changed completely.

  13. It was fine.
  14. → I mean, it was okay, not amazing.

  15. I was busy.
  16. → What I mean is, I didn’t really have time.

    SET 2 – In Natural Conversation (2×8)

    Use one clarifying phrase naturally.

  17. It was good, I mean, better than last time.
  18. I didn’t expect that, what I mean is, it surprised me.
  19. It was hard, I mean, mentally hard.
  20. I liked it, I mean, parts of it.
  21. It didn’t feel right, what I mean is, something was off.
  22. I was tired, I mean, really exhausted.
  23. It was quick, I mean, quicker than I thought.
  24. I understood, what I mean is, I got the main idea.

Say one opinion. Then clarify it naturally.

Say one problem. Then explain what you mean.

Say one short story and clarify one detail.
