SET 1 – Correcting Information (3Γ—6)

Stress the word in CAPITALS.

  1. I said MONDAY.
  2. I said I finished it.
  3. She called ME.
  4. We met at SIX.
  5. He bought THIS one.
  6. They LEFT early.
  7. Now shift stress and notice meaning change:

  8. I SAID Monday.
  9. I said I FINISHED it.
  10. SHE called me.
  11. We MET at six.
  12. He BOUGHT this one.
  13. THEY left early.
  14. SET 2 – Contrast & Focus (3Γ—6)

    Stress the capital word clearly.

  15. I don’t LIKE it.
  16. I DON’T like it.
  17. She REALLY tried.
  18. She really TRIED.
  19. We NEED that.
  20. We need THAT.
  21. Feel how meaning changes.

    SET 3 – Natural Conversation Control (3Γ—6)

    Stress only the key word.

  22. I THOUGHT you knew.
  23. I thought YOU knew.
  24. That WAS the plan.
  25. That was THE plan.
  26. I DID call you.
  27. I did CALL you.
